The sad reality of life sometimes is how much life can change in an instant. Jim's sister Holley was in a terrible car accident yesterday. We received the news yesterday afternoon and thus began the heartbreaking task to go to the hospital where we found Holley in tremendous pain awaiting surgery. Jim's other sister Kirsten was already with her. She was the only person Holley could remember at the time. The details of the car accident are still very sketchy. She broke her collar bone on the left side and has several nasty fractures of her right femur which required surgery last night lasting late into the evening. She has a shattered right knee. She had many facial lacerations which are now all stitched up, apparently she severed an artery. She also has several pelvis fractures as well.
Jim and I spent quite a bit of time trying to track her husband down to tell him the news. Holley could not remember him or where he was and he didn't answer his cell phone when we tried calling him. We finally located him several hours after the accident. We went to their house and decided to leave when we discovered he wasn't there. As we were leaving, we found him walking along the road near their house. He had taken a long walk to go to the cemetery to visit his mother's grave. It was a tender moment to say the least to have to break the news to him. He is with Holley now.
My heart breaks for Holley. She is one of the kindest, most loving people I have ever known. She has a heart of gold and a true deep down goodness about her. She has been a blessing to me in many, many ways for many, many years. It's time for me to figure out how I can serve her now. It's a sad time for our family right now.
