Brothers...Sons

I LOVE this picture.
This was taken in Ian's apartment about 1/2 an hour
before Seth went in the MTC.
It is classic Ian and classic Seth.
Seth was wearing Ian's mission name tag
and Ian is on the collapsible longboard he made from scratch.
I love these two sons of mine.
They are extraordinary men,
extraordinary sons,
gifts from God.
I am extremely blessed to be their mother.
I have devoted my life and my heart to raising them.
It has been my joy to do so.
I can't look at this one without crying.

Goodbye Son

I just can't express how much I will miss Seth.
Goodbye Son.

May God's choicest blessings be with you as
you begin your missionary service.

Love Always,
Mom

as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord..."

Set Apart

As tender as this time is knowing that Seth leaves tomorrow for two years, we had a delightful evening as Seth and his best friend Nels were set apart by our stake president for their missions. They have been friends since 7th grade. Nels was just baptized last year and the thought that the two of them enter the MTC tomorrow on the same day is really amazing. They are such good friends and knowing they will leave to serve at the same time is touching. I will miss both of them.
They will be wonderful missionaries.
I spent a delightful day with Seth helping him pack
and do all sorts of things to get him ready.
He's so happy even if it is a bittersweet time.
Tomorrow will be here soon enough.

Happy Memorial Day

Earlier today we went to the cemetery
to visit my Dad's grave and to
think about those who fought and died for our freedom.
Memorial Day is a great reason to celebrate
and gather the family together for a picnic.
Everybody except Ian & Jessa unfortunately.
(Wade is a very good cook).
If only my children would pose...
for a decent picture.
Elisa is the ringleader.
Sarah follows along.
Emma is no better.
And Seth joined in.
I realize you like each other.
But just a normal picture please.
 Like Gregory here.
Or Nathan.
Or Hannah.
That's better.
There we go.
Good one Seth.

Less than 48 hours until you leave.

We are all going to miss you so much.

Chin Up Liz

There...I made a post title to myself.

We had a lovely Sunday today. Seth was kind and made sure he sat next to me in Sacrament meeting today. He never comes down and sits in the congregation when he sings an intermediate choir number but he did today. "Swiftly fly the years"...just like the line from Fiddler, that's the sentiment we are experiencing these last few days. He's almost ready but there are several last minute things that need to be taken care of on Tuesday.

Seth is as a good a son as any parent could possibly ask for. It has been a privilege to raise him and watch him grow. It has been a blessing to have been trusted so much by God to raise this amazing young man.

Honestly, I am doing the best I can. I'm so happy he's going to serve a mission, just as we prepared him all these years.

Chin up Liz...chin up....keep your chin up....

Anybody have a chin strap?

If I Blog, Does That mean He's Really Going?

So I have been kind of dancing around this blog. By that I mean that I remember when I started this blog, one week before Ian left for his mission. Seth leaves one week from today. If I blog about this, I enter the reality phase of Seth's imminent departure. We've been slowly, carefully reviewing his lists and checking things off as we go. The dentist was yesterday, his glasses will be picked up tomorrow, his doctor visit was last week for a tetanus booster and allergy prescription, the suits are back from the tailor and the farewell was Sunday. The clock is ticking...Today I received an e-mail from Seth's mission president. He asked for information about him and I e-mailed him back. He says he is excited to welcome Seth to his mission.

It's been a busy month and a tender one at that. It started with Ian's wedding and it will end with Seth's departure. Two sons gone in the space of one month. Oh the sappy heart of a mother.

I am happy Seth has decided to serve a mission. I am grateful to have been blessed with such a good son.

It's a tender time for me.
It's a tender time for all of us.

And this one!
 And these. :)
Sweet, sweet, sweet.
Ooops....
Nathan found Grandma's lipstick when she wasn't looking.

Happy times.

Love This

I love this picture of Jim, Seth and Ian.

Seth and I spent the afternoon yesterday helping move
Ian to his new apartment.
He and Jessa look very happy together.
Just sweet, no bitter.

He'll be back eventually...
he knows where my meatballs are.

A Full House & A Lunch Date

Our house is full with wedding company and it is delightful. We have lists of things to do and we have lists of things we hope to do. We are making progress.

Ian and I had a lunch date at the Cheesecake Factory this afternoon. What a lovely thing to do. What a wonderful opportunity to say goodbye and God bless. How did I get so blessed to have such an amazing son?

Ian off picking up his tux...And so it goes.

We're all humming
"I'm getting married in the morning."

What a great time for them.
