A Walk

Today the air FINALLY cleared out  because of an impending storm. Seven weeks of on again, off again, mostly on again BAD AIR makes taking a walk outside a risky and sometimes dangerous proposition. Add to that my six month battle with an ongoing "IT Band" issue on the leg where I had my hip replacement that didn't heal up until mid-December and let's just say, it was wonderful to get out and take a walk. I've been waiting for a walk like that for a long time.

More Progress

I've been a blogger slacker lately. Ooops. Here are a few outtakes from Seth's email today:

"It was a great week here in Georgia. We found 5 new investigators, and were able to teach 5 lessons to investigators with members present for the week. We don't know what changed but it was a great week. We feel very blessed, and are going to try to work hard to keep it going... I learned a lot this week. We had Stake conference, which was really a regional conference. We heard a great talk from Elder Nelson that was broadcasted to our building. The stake president and his councilors gave great talks at the adult session the night before. Also some recent converts gave talks and they were great! The gospel means so much to them!!! I learned that having faith has a lot to do with not worrying. I also learned that wanting blessings is not bad. We just need to be humble enough to ask for them... I know that the gospel is true. I know that God lives and loves us. I know that this is Christ's church, and that as Mormons we truly are Christian. I know that the Book of Mormon is true."

I loved this part: "I learned that having faith has a lot to do with not worrying. I also learned that wanting blessings is not bad." Those are true statements. I have learned that God really does want to bless us. I believe He seeks to bless us as we draw ever closer to Him. Faith really does have a lot to do with not worrying and letting go. It means trusting God to take care of us. Letting go is the hard part but once we do, the freedom from worrying is a gift. If God said He will do something for us and we live worthy of His blessings, He really will do it. We are the ones that shoot ourselves in the foot so many times wringing our hands with worry when we don't have to. I'm getting better at not worrying as the years go on. Worrying comes natural to me as does faith but like the hymn we sang yesterday reminds us, "Fear departs when faith endures."
I'll try to not be a blog slacker. We'll see how that goes.

Growing As A Missionary

Seth sounds like his mission is going well. He has a new companion and he is getting along well with him. Here's a little bit from this week's email:

"It was a good week here...we witnessed some miracles. We have some new investigators that came from a lot of tracting, and some looking up former investigators, and a member referral. Our teaching pool is up to about 6 or 7 good investigators. We feel very blessed...We are excited that so many good things are happening and want to keep working hard.
..I am starting to be much more confident as a missionary. I am learning how to follow the Spirit more. One thing that helps a lot is reading from the Book of Mormon with investigators, and letting there be time for silence. Also I am getting to the point that I actually kind of like tracting. It is fun to meet so many new people and offer them the gospel...I know that Christ lives, and that as we live the doctrine of Christ we can access the power of His atonement. I know He loves us more than we could ever know."

"Ye Have Done It Unto Me"

I love this video so much. Maybe it's because I love this scripture story so much. It is found in Matthew 25: 31-46. It's one of those scriptures I have pondered over and over again. It is important doctrine. I love the way this video came out. My favorite hymn A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief is based off this scripture (lyrics.) It's probably best to watch the video first.

First LDS Baptism In Taiwan

I read an article from the Deseret News today about the first LDS baptism in Taiwan (link to article below the first picture). It was inspiring and I had to choke back the tears to get through it. I think anyone who ever served a mission in Taiwan would be thrilled to read this story.
A recent baptism held in the same exact place.

Cold Weather In Georgia

Sometimes Seth just makes me laugh. I have been a little worried about him with the extreme cold weather in Georgia reported on the news the past few days. Yesterday I reminded him of the various ways he could get cold weather gear in a hurry if needed because we didn't exactly send him with a lot of it when he left. I loved his response but the last part made me laugh.

"Dear Mom, The cold here is not too bad. The heater works just fine, and we left the pipes running in case of a hard freeze. I am perfectly warm so don't worry about it. I have a ton of layers that I can put on. Also, it is good because the more cold it gets the less bugs and spiders there will be in the summer. Last summer was INSANE how many there are. I think a lot of them died last night though, so that is good. :)"

Good luck with that Son. :) He's a hopeful soul.
